You’re So Vain, You Probably Think This Song Is About You – Vol 6

Hello friends – It is once again FRIDAY – you made it – high five to YOU –  I think it is time for another YOU’RE SO VAIN post – it has been way too long.

Little Richard

Little Richard

I got to mark something MAJOR off my bucket list this year. I got to see Little Richard perform at Viva Las Vegas. And when I say perform I am going with a very loose interpretation of this term. He sang kinda, played sorta, and he was wheeled out on a throne of sorts (which was pretty awesome) I think this TOTALLY COUNTS.

In 1955 Little Richard had his first major hit record with Tutti Frutti – and don’t even tell me as soon as you hear him sing “Awap bop a lup bop a wop bam boom” that you don’t want to dance!

(this is from the movie Don’t Knock the Rock  – check it out if you have never seen it)

The original lyrics were “Tutti Frutti, Good Booty/ If it don’t fit, don’t force it/ you can grease it, make it easy

changed to – ”Tutti Frutti all Rooty…

The first version is waaaaay better – good BOOTY – and also WAY more dirty – unless he was talking about fixing your bike or something. You guys – do you think the Cosby show character was named after this song?

OK now for the most important lyric – the one about ME

Got a gal named Sue, She knows just what to do.

She Rocks to the East, Rocks to the West.

She’s the gal that I love best.

She knows just what to do?!? Like change a tire, bake a cake, do your TAXES? Or is this once again a song about all Susie’s being a little fast and loose? Oh well, at least we are POPULAR and that is what’s REALLY important. He does say that she’s the gal that he LIKES BEST. It then goes on to blah blah about some bitch named Daisy but I do not have time for that.

** Special Bonus – the WORST COVER OF Tutti Frutti of ALL TIME **

Oh Pat Boone – You’re Welcome
